GSM carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T are a haven for globetrotters who need to use their handsets just about wherever they may go, and now T-Mo is aiming to make those travelers even happier. The folks at TmoNews have obtained some internal documents showing that T-Mobile plans to introduce an international voice and text plan, the first carrier to do so. Beginning on December 8th, most T-Mobile customers on postpaid plans $49.99 or higher will be able to add a $10 plan that allows calling to any landline internationally (in 56 countries) as well as unlimited texting to any mobile worldwide. Just to reiterate, the calling portion of the plan is for landlines only. If you want unlimited texting to U.S. numbers and don't already have that feature built into your main plan, the price jumps to $25 per month. Minutes used during international calls come from your standard bucket of minutes.
T-Mobile's new international voice and text plan certainly isn't going to benefit everyone like a domestic plan re-haul would, but for those of us that travel the globe on an even semi-regular basis, the new options are going to be a blessing. This is especially true with the holidays coming up and families traveling all over the place to visit loved ones. Sure, it's disappointing that you're stuck calling landlines, but I'm sure that just about any person that you'd want to dial up has access to a landline that you can call.
