If you've been salivating at the videos of the BlackBerry PlayBook like we have, you've probably been wondering just how much you'll have to shell out for the darn thing. According to one insider, the PlayBook will be priced pretty much in line with existing tablets: 8GB for $399, 16GB for $499, and 32GB for $599. There's no word on how much the 64GB model could cost, but using all of my expertise, I'd bet that it'll sport a $699 price tag. Additionally, the same source claims that we'll be waiting until 2012 for a PlayBook with WWAN (aka cellular connection), because all initial models will be WiFi-only.
Just like $199.99 seems to be the standard price with high-end smartphones, $499.99 is emerging as the price to hit for a WiFi-capable tablet. The 16GB WiFi iPad costs $499, and the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab, while not actually available yet, looks like it'll carry the same $499.99 price tag. What's interesting is that RIM could offer an 8GB PlayBook for only $399, which could definitely pique the interest of customers looking to get into the world of tablets for as little as possible.
