Verizon said early last month that they would be flipping the LTE switch in 38 markets (and a bunch of airports!) before the end of the year, and as we inch near December, some of us were wondering if Big Red would still actually launch LTE before 2011. A new Verizon ad has erased any doubt in our minds, though, as the company is now saying that LTE will arrive in "December 2010." There's no specific dates mentioned, but it's a heck of a lot more specific than the info we had before. Verizon also finally acknowledged the DROID 2 Global on their Facebook account. I'm kind of surprised that Verizon didn't go after AT&T in their first LTE commercial, but considering a recently leaked bit of advertising, I'm sure we'll see them go on the offensive sooner or later. In the mean time, we get the commercial you see below. It's kind of a strange advert, but it gets the point across, and I'm sure that we'll see commercials actually showing off LTE's speeds once the network goes live. Whether or not it's true 4G, it's still pretty exciting to see another carrier lighting up a new network, even if we have to wait until February to get phones that can actually use that network.
UPDATE: That December launch is looking a whole lot more likely now, as LTE SIM cards have begun rolling into Verizon stores. Don't expect to pop one of those suckers into your phone and get LTE data, as they're most certainly going to be used in netbooks, etc. Still, this is definitely a good sign.
