Just about every mobile manufacturer is planning to introduce an entrant into the Great Tablet Race next year, and today Lenovo confirmed that they, too, will be joining the fray. Yang Yuanqinq, Lenovo's CEO, said that his company will be bringing the LePad to the U.S. sometime in 2011. This news comes on the heels of a statement from Lenovo COO Rory Reid, who said that there would be no plans for an Android tablet from Lenovo until Honeycomb was released. Along with the LePad's U.S. availability, Lenovo announced a $15.1 million investment program in order to help support app developers as the company makes plans to expand its own app download store, which will be compatible with the LePad.
While there's not a lot of real competition going on in the tablet market right out (it's basically just the Galaxy Tab and iPad), that's going to change early next year. We're expecting tablets from HP, HTC, Motorola, Dell, RIM, and now Lenovo, as well. It's tough to say how well each one is going to do, but a lot of success will come from a tablet's way to stand out among the wave of devices. Getting into a major carrier's lineup would certainly help, especially if you can make it into the brick and mortar stores of all four big carriers like the Tab. Which tablets do you think will stand out in the Great Tablet Race next year?
