So we already known that the LG Optimus T, Motorola DEFY, and myTouch 4G are all launching on November 3rd, and now Magenta's Android holiday has gotten even bigger. T-Mobile announced this morning that the Comet will arrive on November 3rd for the low price of...wait for it...$9.99 with a two year contract and $50 mail-in rebate. Specs for the Comet include a 2.8-inch display, 528MHz processor, 3.2 megapixel camera, and what looks like vanilla Android 2.2.
Along with the Comet, T-Mobile took the opportunity to announce two new data-related add-ons. First up is the Tethering and WiFi Sharing plan, which will cost $14.99 per month and require a $30 unlimited data plan, meaning you'll be paying $45 per month to tether with one of T-Mo's "select smartphones." Additionally, a new 200MB data plan will soon be made available to Magenta customers. Interested customers can look forward to paying one of two different monthly rates for the 200MB option: $10 per month with a two year contract extension or $15 per month sans extension. When T-Mobile announced the price of the Optimus T, I said that that handset was going to help introduce Android to a new wave of first-time smartphone buyers, and now the Comet is coming in even cheaper. Even those contract-wary consumers can hop on the Android train with the Comet and its sub-$200 prepaid price tag. Good on T-Mobile for making such an affordable Android smartphone. Plus, those of us looking for a cheap Android fix can save even more cash with the new 200MB data plan. Some T-Mo customers may not be so excited on the new $15 tethering add-on, especially since the capability is built into stock Android 2.2 for free, but $15 is a pretty good deal when you consider that Verizon and AT&T charge $20 for 2GB of a similar service. With all of the additions coming to T-Mobile in the next couple of months, it's definitely a good time to be a Magenta customer. Services Families Can Afford

Mobile data plans. With T-Mobile data plans, customers will have two options for data: the Web – 200MB plan or the Web – Unlimited plan. The Web – 200MB plan will be available for $10 per month with a new two-year service agreement or contract extension for a limited time or for $15 per month, which will not require a two-year contract extension. The Web – Unlimited plan will be available for $30 per month. Both data plans will be sold paired with a new or existing voice and text message plan.
Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing service plan. T-Mobile is offering a new tethering service plan that enables select smartphones to function as wireless modems for connecting devices, such as laptops, tablets and netbooks to the Internet through the T-Mobile network. Customers can add the Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing plan to their Web – Unlimited $30 monthly plan for an additional $14.99 per month.
Availability
The T-Mobile Comet, LG Optimus T and Motorola DEFY are expected to be available starting Nov. 3 at T-Mobile retail stores, select dealers and online at http://www.t-mobile.com. The T-Mobile Comet will also be available as a prepaid Android smartphone at Best Buy, Radio Shack and Target. T-Mobile expects its new mobile data plans and tethering service plan will be available this holiday season.
