We heard last month that the DROID 2 could be discontinued to make way for the DROID 2 Global, and today it looks like that process has begun. As you can see in the image leaked to Droid-Life, the "Otorola" DROID 2 has been discontinued in Best Buy's inventory, and the display models have reportedly been yanked from many stores. If, for some reason, you'd prefer a DROID 2 rather than its upcoming Global counterpart (which is rumored to be launching on November 11th), the DROID 2 is available as a part of Best Buy's Free Phone Fridays today, if you can find a store that still has them in stock.
Considering that the DROID 2 has only been out for almost three months, I have a feeling that there are going to be some D2 owners that will be feeling a little burned if this news is accurate. Still, I'm sure that a lot of people won't really need the Global's roaming capabilities, so they won't be missing too much. There is the rumored 1.2GHz processor, but the regular DROID 2 is toting a 1GHz chip, so it's not that big of a difference. If any of you stop in at your local Best Buy this weekend, be sure to let us know if you see any DROID 2s out. Are any of you DROID 2 owners upset that your handset is being phased out already?
