Ever since the most recent Verizon iPhone rumor came to light, it seems like there have been even more iBigRedPhone rumors than ever before. Today we've got another one for you, so buckle your seat belt and let's get to the meat of it. The folks over at Boy Genius Report have heard from one of their "solid Apple sources" that iPhone model 3,2 just hit the "AP" testing phase, which is the final stage before a product is actually launched. The current iPhone 4 is model 3,1, and word is that the 3,2 version is the CDMA-compatible (aka the mythical Verizon iPhone). Interestingly, the 3,2 iPhone is said to have a SIM card slot. Also, the iPhone 5 is said to be in the engineering verification test, or "EVT," stage.
The presence of a SIM card slot in the CDMA iPhone is an extremely interesting surprise, and there are a couple of possible ways to explain it. First up is the possibility that iPhone 3,2 is a CDMA/GSM/HSPA device capable of being used on either Verizon or AT&T. This could make just about everyone happy, with Verizon customers finally getting an iPhone and AT&T users getting an updated, "Antennagate"-less model of the iPhone 4. The other explanation is that the device is a world-ready phone, much like VZW's upcoming onslaught of global Android phones. The Verizon iPhone would primarily be a CDMA device, but would also be capable of being used overseas. So, readers, which explanation sounds more probable to you?
