Verizon has said in the past that they plan to launch their shiny new LTE network in 30 "NFL cities" by then end of this year.  That's all well and good, but if you're like me, you're wondering what kind of speeds we can expect when Big Red's 4G finally hits.  Well readers, I hope you love speedy downloads and uploads, because that's what you'll (reportedly) be getting.  A person who claims to be a part of a Verizon test group in Pennsylvania has conducted a speed test of the LTE network and reported download speeds of 27.79 Mbps and upload speeds clocking in at 5.09 Mbps.  The high 151 ms latency adds evidence to the tester's claim that he was using Verizon's wireless connection, later posting photos of the hardware being used in the test for more credibility.

These speeds are definitely awesome, and it's great to see Verizon's new LTE network is able to produce them already.  However, we have to remember that this speed test came from a network that was only being used by a group of 60 people.  Once the 4G network is made publicly available and has time to gain some popularity with customers, I doubt that you'll be seeing speeds like these.  Still, you should be able to download and surf faster than you could on 3G.  How many of you are planning on hopping onto Verizon's LTE network when it's launched later this year?
