Apple has often touted the fact that the iPhone has continually received the highest marks in J.D. Power and Associates' Smartphone Satisfaction Surveys, but the most recent survey shows that the iPhone's lead is dwindling. Today J.D. Power released the results of their latest survey, which has Apple in first place with a satisfaction score of 800 out of 1,000. Motorola is nipping at Apple's heels, though, with a score of 791, certainly thanks to the extremely successful DROID on Verizon. Right behind Moto is HTC, sitting pretty with 781 points. Those three companies are the only ones above the industry average score of 764, with RIM a distant fourth place at 737 points. Bringing up the rear is Samsung with 735, Palm/HP at 726, and Nokia at 711.
By now, just about all of you are aware of the crazy growth that Android has had over the past nine months or so, and now we can see that Google's green robot is helping out those manufacturers that embrace the OS. However, the survey was taken between January and June 2010, so there are several major new handsets that weren't included in these numbers, like the DROID X, DROID 2, and iPhone 4. Another interesting thing about the survey is how low RIM and their BlackBerry platform is ranked, especially considering BlackBerry has consistently been the top U.S. smartphone platform in terms of number of subscribers.
