You know how WiMAX went live in San Francisco today? Well, San Fran isn't the only major city in the U.S. that will get to bask in 4G goodness today, as Clear has flipped the WiMAX switch in New York City, as well. There have been sporadic reports of the service gracing users with its presence for months now, but Clear has gone and made everything official by updating their website. Now you EVO 4G, Epic 4G, and other 4G device owners in NYC will finally get to see what all the WiMAX rage is all about.
With the availability of WiMAX in both San Francisco and New York City, Clear has finally spread 4G to two of the most-requested cities in the country. Considering that the only other carrier with any 4G coverage currently available for public consumption is MetroPCS, I'd say Sprint and Clear are doing pretty well for themselves. Now they just need to keep up their steady pace so that they still have a good lead when other competitors begin launching their own 4G networks. So, all of you NYCers, share your WiMAX experiences with us!
UPDATE: It appears that we've jumped the gun a bit, as Clear has chimed in to say that the WiMAX in New York City is still in the "operational readiness" stage. Looks like things haven't changed much from what we heard earlier this month. With all of this testing, though, let's hope that Clear is able to officially make WiMAX available to all shortly. Cross your fingers!
