Sprint recently expanded their WiMAX coverage into Boston, Mass; Daytona Beach, Fla.; and Providence, R.I.; but it looks like they may soon be planning to flip the 4G switch in New York City, too. Owners of 4G-ready devices, like Sprint's Overdrive and the new Epic 4G, have seen some WiMAX signal pop up in areas of NYC, and Sprint's PR rep Stephanie Vinge has even said that the service will be going live soon. Unfortunately, "soon" isn't the most concrete of dates, and this isn't even the first time that we've seen reports of 4G appearing the Big Apple. Let's hope that this time, it's the real deal.
Considering that Sprint has already lit up 51 different markets with their 4G service, I'd say they're doing pretty well with the WiMAX rollout. While they have managed to expand coverage in several major cities, it's surprising that they haven't launched WiMAX in either San Francisco or New York City yet. Things look promising for NYC right now, though, so let's hope that San Francisco will be getting the same treatment soon. Have any of you NYC readers gotten 4G speeds on your devices?
