Samsung officially unveiled their Galaxy Tab this morning at IFA, but just because the Tab has finally been revealed doesn't mean that the company will be resting on their Android-powered laurels. WP Wong, Samsung's head of product planning, has said that not only would the Galaxy Tab be upgraded to Gingerbread, but that Samsung also plans to release a next generation tablet running Honeycomb. We've heard the name Honeycomb in the past, but this is the first time that we've heard a manufacturer publicly mention the name. The full quote can be seen below:
"Moving forward, with Honeycomb, that will be used in the next generation tablet, as it [Honeycomb] is specifically optimised for different type of tablet, and will be used on another product only."
It's definitely surprising to hear a company mention Honeycomb, especially considering that we haven't even gotten a glimpse of any device running Gingerbread. It's also interesting that Mr. Wong described the Galaxy Tab's successor as a "different type of tablet." Considering we just got to officially see the Galaxy Tab today, I have a feeling that the Honeycomb tablet is still pretty far off. Let's just enjoy what we've got now, the Galaxy Tab, and imagine how great it'll be with Gingerbread onboard.
