With all of the recent device leaks from HTC, it can be tough to keep straight which one is running which OS and going to what carrier. The fine folks over at TmoNews have done some sleuthing, and they feel confident that they have begun to pin down some solid info on a couple of HTC handsets. First up we have the myTouch HD, which David from TmoNews believes is T-Mobile's mysterious Project Emerald device. Their reasoning? Codenames. The original myTouch 3G had the codename "Sapphire," while the codename for the myTouch HD is "Emerald." As for specs for the myTouch HD, a source told TmoNews that there will be a front-facing camera on the device, and that the screen is larger than a Nexus One, but smaller than 4.3 inches. David also said that the Sidekick handset that originally kicked off the Project Emerald rumors does still exist, but it has been pushed back to 2011.
That's not the end of the T-Mobile/HTC rumors, though, as David also reports that the G1 Blaze will simply be referred to as the T-Mobile G2. After examining a leaked T-Mobile roadmap that we saw about a month ago, it's looking likely that the G2 will launch some time in September. Android and Me has heard from their own source that the G2 will be T-Mobile's first HSPA+ device, will launch with vanilla Android 2.2, and will likely sport a 1 GHz processor.
T-Mobile was the original home of Android, but it has slowly been losing its crown lately to Verizon, who seems to be releasing a new Android device every couple of weeks. With these new handsets, though, T-Mobile is definitely putting themselves right back in the game. The G2 looks like the worthy successor to the G1 that we've all been waiting for, and the keyboard on the device looks especially nice. The myTouch HD will definitely appeal to those of us that prefer a full-on touchscreen experience, and the inclusion of a front-facing camera will certainly broaden its appeal.
