It's not quite August 3rd just yet, but HTC and Sprint have decided to go ahead and start rolling out the Android 2.2 update to EVO owners. As stated in the announcement post last week, the upgrade brings many new features and enhancements beyond the standard Froyo goodness. This includes tons of new preloaded widgets, a flashlight mode for the camera's LED flash, the ability to use the flash during video recording, and improved quality of that video recording. Also, just in case you haven't heard, any of you that installed the update that showed up last week on HTC's site (which was removed pretty quickly), HTC says that they're working on a fix to get you back into the loop that should arrive "in the coming days."
Considering that Verizon announced plans to release Froyo for the DROID this week as well, I'm not surprised that Sprint has decided to start pushing out the update a few hours early to keep that competitive edge. It's kind of a bummer that those of us that downloaded the update from HTC last week will have to wait around to get back into the game, but I suppose that's the risk that comes with installing software early. So, have any of you EVO owners gotten the call up to Froyo?
