Everyone hates early termination fees and, thanks to a recent lawsuit, Verizon probably hates them, too. The class action suit has been going on since 2008 and was focused on on the carrier's flat $175 termination fee. It's probably a good thing that Big Red got rid of the flat fee since its caused trouble for other carriers in the past. Each person involved in suit won $87.50, adding up to about $21 million total that Verizon will be forced to pay out.
The old ETF that this lawsuit was concerned with were a very bad deal and I'm surprised that carriers were able to get away charging them when they did. I don't have a problem with the fee itself, but the idea of forcing someone to pay $175 if their contract is a month away from ending is ridiculous.
