Earlier we reported that HTC EVO owners were getting a system update to fix Wi-Fi connectivity issues, among other problems. Not everything is golden with the upgrade, though, as some users are reporting bricked devices after updating. MobileCrunch has received several tips from EVO owners with broken devices, and while most of them rooted their EVO, some phones are factory-fresh. It sounds like the problem is coming from users receiving notification of a second update after the first one has already taken place. Sprint customer service said they have received complaints about the update since it was issued. Their recommendation? Head on over to your local Sprint shop to see if they have any EVOs on hand to exchange.
Just like with the iPhone 4 launch, rollouts of new software rarely go off without a hitch. Is Sprint and HTC trying to prevent people from rooting by bricking EVOs of those who have already done so? Doubtful, especially since those people will probably just root again with their new EVO when they get the chance. So if you have an EVO and get some sort of second update today after the first one that we all know about, don't install it! Are any of you EVO owners out there having any bricking problems?
