Windows Mobile fans, take note: You may have up to 30 new handsets heading this way soon from as many as 15 manufacturers.
BoyGenius Report broke the story, which reportedly comes from Benjamin Tan, of the GCR Mobile Team Unit at Microsoft China. He let the rumor slip that a whole herd of new Windows Mobile handsets — from HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Toshiba, HP and more — will debut in the latter part of 2009. Carriers include AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMO, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telstra and Telus. That’s a pretty nice cross section of brands and carriers worldwide there.
Then again, the industry has a habit of releasing the same phone with small variations per carrier, so we’ll have to wait and see how big the herd really is. And note that the version reported will be 6.5, so if you’re biding your time, waiting for the near-mythic WinMo 7 — well, this isn’t your bonanza.
But if the market’s flood of BlackBerries, iPhones, Pres and Android devices isn’t up your alley, you might have a bevy of choices coming up soon.
