While full financial and operational results will be disclosed when Verizon Communications announces quarterly results on July 27th, things are looking good for Big Red, according to the company's second quarter customer additions. The nation's largest wireless carrier added 1.1 million customers in the second quarter of 2009, bringing the total customer count to 87.7 million, with 85.2 million directly managed by Verizon.
The numbers come in a day after AT&T's announcement of 1.4 million new customers, 1.2 of which are post-paid subscribers. Despite a higher quarterly customer count, however, AT&T still maintains the second spot, with 79.6 million customers. Sprint is slated to release its second quarter numbers on July 29th.
