Stepping aside from the relatively well-known fact that Research In Motion is my favorite technology company and Apple is a close second, RIM recently made a decision that will impact future BlackBerry devices coming out of Waterloo.  The company has hired Don Lindsay, the former Director of the design team behind the user interface of Mac OS X and one of the masterminds behind the user interface of the iPhone.



Mac fans will inevitably chime in with me here - the transition from previous Mac OS versions to Mac OS X was one of the things that rejuvenated Apple and made it the popular technology company that it is today.  Don Lindsay was a key contributor to that success, so when he's walking down the street and hears someone say "man, I love my Mac, it's just so easy to use," he must get a smile on his face.

Lindsay commands an impressive resume, leaving Nortel in 1994 to join Apple from 1994-2004.  Following his departure, he arrived at Microsoft, where he led a design group for Microsoft Live Labs.  Though RIM hired Lindsay directly from Microsoft, it's likely that they desired him for his experience at Apple.  In his new role at RIM as Vice-President of User Experience, he will put his expertise to the test and work on the user interface of upcoming BlackBerry devices in order to make them as user friendly as possible.  With the huge success of the iPhone, we're sure he'll have no problems doing just that.
