I am a bit sad (though not entirely surprised) to report that the next anticipated phone in Openmoko's line-up - the GTA03 - will never see the light of day. Openmoko worked hard over the last few years to get their open hardware, open software product to a state suitable for consumers. Starting with a model called the Neo1973, following up with the Freerunner, and intending one more physical update before putting the Linux Openmoko OS into the hands of the average user, the project seemed to be perpetually pushed back.

Now, in a bid to survive, Openmoko has cut their staff by 50% and is focusing on non-phone devices - though they do hope to return to that game. And with that, the value of Android skyrockets in the  FOSS world.
