Set your alarm clocks, iPhone Fans and would-be Palm Pre buyers: Apple
has officially responded, even if there's nary a mention in sight of
any corporate competition.

Apple just sent out a missive - that Engadget got to first - announcing the release of iPhone OS
3.0 and a preview is coming next Tuesday. No world on the actual release date just yet, however. And yes,
that's a full on new version, not a ".x upgrade."  Most of the tech
world is silently chanting, "Cut and Paste! Cut and Paste!" right about
now, but me, I'm singing a song that goes something like this:

Integrated messaging, for the win 

Would push notifications be such a sin?

If the calendar didn't grind everything to a halt

I might stop saying it's all Apple's fault
