The first Android app (that I know of) for finding movies was called Movies and Showtimes. The program would seek information pertinent to your location, which was determined via GPS coordinates or zip code. However, the zip entry never worked for me and I don't like turning my GPS on unless absolutely necessary. The links to imdb reviews and ratings were a nice touch, but not enough to get me using the software on a regular basis.
Along comes Movie Finder. This one offers the same two methods for determining location: GPS and zip. But zip works for me here, and my location is saved. The old app usually crashed and forgot my info if I ever did get it to work. Once your location has been determined, the app loads the local data. The screen says the process could take fifteen to sixty seconds, but I've never had it take more than ten.
When that's done you're presented with three buttons on the bottom of your screen: Movies, Theaters, and Settings. When Movies is selected, three buttons at the top of the screen allow you to sort the results by title, release date, or rating. Clicking the Theaters button allows you to sort by name or distance, and Settings is for changing location.
The interface is simple and intuitive - arranged just as I'd chose if I were designing such an app. Clicking a theater shows it on a Google map, and clicking a movie poster takes you to a description. And here's the best part; Apple movie trailers are available for each film and are viewable from within the app. They play full screen, and I haven't experienced any buffering pauses over Wi-Fi or 3G. I did over EDGE, but pausing for ten seconds and resuming resolved the issue.
My wife and I chose a movie and theater last night, as well as found our way there, with nothing but the Movie Finder program. It was quick and easy. I've got a favorite movie app. Thank you ikamobile. Cinetopia is clean if pricey, and Marley and Me was a good date flick. Romantic comedy would have been more accurate a genre, but I know that's not your doing.
