I've been a huge fan of mobile TV, though not a big fan of today's crop of providers (especially Sprint TV. Poor you, if you've been hobbling along with this dismal service. I feel your pain.) SlingMedia has an awesome solution, allowing selected Windows Mobile, Palm and Symbian customers to stream prerecorded TV from home right to their cell phones. Now the latest from SM is that BlackBerry users have finally been invited to the party, and right before New Year's at that.
SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry will be beta released just a hair before the calendar flips, on December 30. That means Slingers wielding one of the handsets below will get to enjoy their pre-recorded content on the run. There's one caveat, though: Don't try this without a hi-speed network, unless you?re the sort who enjoys watching paint dry. Otherwise, a 3G or Wifi connection should suffice nicely. (Edge might work.)
You?ll need OS 4.5 or better, a computer (Windows PC preferred, but a Mac will work for most things) and, of course, a SlingBox at home with content to stream. Oh, and don't forget to make sure you have one of the following devices:
• Bold (AT&T)
• Curve 8320 (AT&T/T-Mobile)
• Pearl Flip 8220 (T-Mobile)
• Pearl 8120 (AT&T)
• 8820 (AT&T)
Happy boob-tubin?!
