Thanks, Ryan, for tipping me off to this one. I lose out on the early morning news announcements sometimes since I'm three hours behind the East Coast here in California. Then again, while you East Coasters are settling in at your desks I'm just barely getting out of bed. Ha ha.
LG's gone and joined the 8 megapixel cameraphone arms race with the official announcement of the KC910, which I'm unofficially calling the Viewty 2. LG has actually said that their "pet name" for the phone will be announced shortly. Pet name - I love it.
The KC910's claim to fame is an 8 megapixel camera with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, xenon flash, auto focus, and "an effective ISO
rating of up to 1600," according to Mobile Burn. Like the 5MP Viewty, KC910 will feature a full touchscreen and video capture at up to 120 frames per second (good for slow-motion playback of fast action scenes).
Measuring 13.95mm from front to back, KC910's slim profile will make it a head-on competitor against the likes of Samsung's Omnia and Tocco, Apple's iPhone 3G, and HTC's Touch Diamond in the high-end multimedia/smartphone market. KC910 will also feature A-GPS, 3G HSDPA data at up to 7.2Mbps, WiFi connectivity, DivX compatibility, and Dolby Mobile certificatino. LG has said the device will ship this October and further details and specs will be forthcoming shortly.
