Verizon Wireless today announced the availability of Visual Voicemail to users of their LG Voyager handset.  The move comes, oh, 15 months (give or take) after AT&T launched the first visual vm service in America on the Apple iPhone. Timing aside, this is a good thing - cell phones may have been invented to help people contact one another when away from home, but we all know Caller ID was the true revolutionary advancement in telecom technology.  Knowing who's calling so you can decide who's worth talking to?  Now that's helpful.  Visual Voicemail basically acts as Caller ID for your Inbox, amongst other things.

Is it free?  Can I get it on my EnV2 or Chocolate 3?  I'll quote from the VZW press release:

Verizon Wireless customers can find the Visual Voice Mail application on the Messaging menu under option 6 on their Voyager by LG phones.  Visual Voice Mail is available for $2.99 monthly access, per line, plus airtime or megabyte charges and messaging fees, depending on a customer's plan.  Customers should take their Voyager by LG phones to any Verizon Wireless Communications Store to receive the free software update.  Verizon Wireless expects to offer Visual Voice Mail on additional devices in the coming months.
