Boy Genius is reporting that a T-Mobile warehouse was broken into over the weekend, and the bad guys made off with some 36,000 phones. That translates to some $8.2 million of thievery. Not cool.
According to a BGR-published email sent to T-Mobile dealers, the majority of the stolen handsets were Sidekicks, and T-Mobile is working with the authorities to keep an eye on the IMEI numbers of newly activated devices (IMEI numbers are internal ID codes - every cell phone has a unique one). So if you come across a deal on a Sidekick on eBay or Craigslist or your local sketchy cell phone shop in the next few weeks, exercise some extra caution - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is, as the adage goes. And in the digital age, it's easier than you think to track down a hot Sidekick.
