Two days after iPhone firmware v.1.1.3 was released at MacWorld in San Francisco, many iPhone users have been reporting problems with their SMS and EDGE functionality. Given that one of the new features found in the software update is the ability to send SMS missives to multiple recipients, groans of "Bugs in Apple's firmware" immediately could be heard across the land and on Apple and AT&T support forums.
But it looks like an AT&T network problem, and not the new Apple firmware, may be to blame. MacNN is reporting that AT&T has owned up to difficulties stemming from their GoPhone pay-as-you-go plans as the culprit. According to MacNN, AT&T has said the timing and problems are coincidental, but apparently the glitch is unsubscribing iPhone users from EDGE, effectively killing their data access. There is a workaround available, and AT&T is working to resolve the problem on a permanent basis.
