Currently there are over 2.1 billion cell phone subscriber's world wide and just about 220 million are located in the U.S. alone. New subscribers' are being added at a rate of 15 to 20 million a month due impart by the average household replacing their land line service and going to wireless only. As impressive as these numbers are - what's more interesting is the list of the top selling phones of all time. 

Believe it or not the Nokia 1100, a simple, unassuming candy bar style phone with an inexpensive price tag still holds the record of best selling cell phone with more than 200 million copies sold since 2003. Not surprising the original Motorola RAZR V3 comes in at a distant second with around 65 million copies sold since its introduction in 2004.

With the speed at which new phones are being introduced combined with increasing competition from around the world - particularly from China, breaking the 200 million mark may not be attainable even for innovative devices like the iPhone.

Will we ever see a phone that combines the form and function everyone wants at a price they can afford? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
