Got a speedy 3G cellphone or USB modem? CradlePoint's PHS300 portable router lets you share your EV-DO data connection with your pals via an 802.11b/g wireless signal. The $180 device runs on either a rechargeable lithium-ion battery or AC power, both of which will power a USB modem or keep your USB-compatible handset charged. A 12v car charger is also available.
The PSH300 supports WEP and WPA encryption and has a built-in firewall, but does not have an Ethernet port for wired connections. But if you travel a lot and/or have a small business and already pay for wireless data from your cellular provider, sharing your 3G data connection could be an interesting alternative to paying for DSL or cable modem. You're not going to get the same speeds over 3G that you will over DSL/Cable just yet, but for email and basic Web surfing you could wind up satisfied all the same.
CradlePoint is currently taking pre-orders for the router, which will ship on December 20th. Learn more at CradlePoint. A list of compatible Sprint and Verizon devices is also available on the CradlePoint site.
