Verizon Wireless in somewhat of a surprise, announced they plan to develop and implement LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology as the backbone of its fourth generation mobile broadband network and dismiss both EV-DO and WiMax in the process. The decision gives credence to Verizon's recent shift to its ?Any Apps / Any Device? policy and will undoubtedly help Verizon become a bigger player in the global market.
With coordinated trials set to launch sometime in 2008, one can only hope the claims of 100Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speeds are indeed accurate.
It looks like the day of a swappable Verizon SIM card is getting closer to reality (fingers crossed).
