We've compiled a top 10 list of the best iOS apps to hit the App Store in the month of May 2016. The apps mentioned in this video include Spaces, Gabbermap, Opera VPN, HISTORY Vault, Beme, GIPHY Keys, TaoMix 2, Hear, Gboard, and MMX Hill Climb. Which app is your favorite?

It's that time of the month where we highlight some of the apps to have hit the App Store during the month of May 2016. These are 10 of our favorite apps in no particular order. Let's get started.

Spaces

Spaces is one of the latest apps from Google. It's a pretty neat app if you have a group of friends or family members that you share stuff with frequently. Basically, the app consists of spaces that you create to act as a topic. And then you share pictures, links and YouTube videos with each topic. The app stood out to me because of its concept. It's like its own social network but for a close knit group of people. I think it's pretty cool. You guys should give it a look.

Gabbermap

Speaking of social network, Gabbermap is a social network app that shows you trending places on a map. The developers describe the app as a Reddit for real places. You can share, vote on, and discuss the best locations and events around you. It's especially great because it helps you discover new locations around your city or a city that you may be traveling to, as well as the community that makes up this city.

Opera VPN

Opera VPN is a free app from the makers of the Opera browser. It has the power to block adds and change your version to a location. So if content is restricted in your country, you can use the app to unlock more content and put an end to trackers that follow you around the web. The best thing about this app is that it's completely free.

History Vault

Now I wanted to include History Vault on the list for all the history buffs out there. With Memorial Day not too long ago, I think it's especially important to reflect on our history: how we got to where we are today, whether you look at it from a scientific standpoint or a historical standpoint, the two go hand in hand. You can learn a lot from World War II for example or the American Civil War; Presidents, Leaders, the Dark Ages. You can watch hundreds of hours of documentaries with the History Vault app. The biggest downside/bummer is the fact that you have to pay about $5/month after the 7-day free trial. But hey, maybe you just want to load up on tons of knowledge in those 7 days. It's totally up to you.

Beme

We also mentioned this app on the Android version of this video. It isn't new to the App Store but it did come out of beta with version 1.0 and the layout and the mechanics have been much improved. If you're new to Beme, what it does is that it essentially allows you to share a video and photos online with your followers. But the reason why I like it and why I think it's so unique is because it uses the proximity sensor on your smartphone to automatically start capturing video. So when you're ready to share a segment in your life, you hold your phone up to your chest and when you're done, you take it off your chest and automatically upload some footage that you captured to your Beme account and then to your followers. Of course, you don't have to use the proximity sensors, there is a selfie mode as well but that's why I like the app.

GIPHY Keys

GIPHY Keys is a custom keyboard that centers around animated GIFs. The keyboards look a lot like the stock iOS keyboard but with the ability to add GIFs. All you do is tap the magnifying glass icon and enter your keyword to search for a GIF. You can also choose from categories to the right. And now you can even save your favorite GIFs if you like. But if you use GIFs a lot, you should download this keyboard. If you don't, well you should.

TaoMix 2

TaoMix 2 is one of the most zen apps on the App Store. Whether you want to focus, relax or sleep more deeply, TaoMix 2 helps you do just that. You can choose from a wide selection of base sounds like water, wind and the chirping of birds. Then you can drag the white circle around to customize just how much of that sound you actually want to listen to. The app even lets you create your own ambiance, via a recording, which I think is pretty neat. But I definitely will be using this app to help improve my focus. Maybe you will too.

Hear

Hear Active Listening is a lot of fun. It's an app that enhances what you're hearing to make the world sound amazing. Or so they say. You need a pair of headphones and then from there, you can choose from several presets like super hearing, relax, happy, talk, office, sleep and auto-volume; some of which turn sound into cascades of happiness, harmonic waves of bliss and/or induce the deep and surreal dreams. Gboard

Gboard is hands-down my favorite everyday keyboard for iOS right behind GIPHY Keys. It features swipe typing and it also features Google Now and Google Search built directly into the keyboard. You tap on the G icon and you can search for stuff. The info you search is displayed in cards, which you can then select and then send to your contacts/ the person you are messaging. It's really useful having Google Search built into the keyboard. I can't wait for it to be released in Android so more people can use this keyboard.

MMX Hill Climb

MMX Hill Climb may be the only game on the list but it's a fun one. The goal is to outrace your opponent, collect as many coins as possible and climb as many hills as possible without flipping over and exploding. What's neat is that you can play this game with your Facebook friends to unlock various cars and extra courses. The app is free, but of course, there are optional in-app purchases.
