We have compiled ten of our favorite apps for the month of July. They are in no particular order so without further ado, let’s get started.
First we have Seeing AI. AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a pretty hot word right now and companies use it all the time, they capitalize on the buzz; even when AI is not actually really being used. Microsoft has designed an app that actually uses AI or at least more so than those other companies to help the low vision community. Using your smartphone’s camera, it will tell you what objects, texts and/or nearby people are. The coolest and most practical use would be for text as it can read it aloud. But the other uses are pretty neat as well.
StoryFire is a group storing platform where you can read, write and create stories for free. There’s a nice visual layout that’s easy on the eyes and some pretty thoroughly enjoying stories to read. Give it a shot if you’re a writer or a reader.
Lapse - Fuse is a puzzle game. You have to match three orbs of the same color to merge into the next color and you can merge multiple in one shot to increase the score multiplier. Furthermore, you can launch an orb against a filled edge to swap with the next orb. It’s simple enough but lots of fun. It definitely gets challenging the further you progress. You have to make decisions ultra fast but I highly recommend it.
Off the Record is more of a series app but I think it could seriously be useful for anyone who’s watching this that drives a car. If you get a speeding ticket, this app will pair you up with a lawyer to fight your ticket in less than a minute with around 92% success rate. The success rate fluctuates. And of course, it could take longer than a minute. This is not a sponsor and I have yet to actually use this app because I’ve yet to need this app. But after reading many of the reviews, it sounds legit and can seriously help you out.
Today Weather sounds like an extremely generic weather application but it’s really not. It features a beautiful, simple to use layout that is dark-themed; which I absolutely love. But best of all, it provides more detailed weather info than most weather apps on the App Store. You can read the air quality index, look at chance of rain, radar, the moon phases, wind, 7-day and 24-hour forecasts. It’s a beautiful app that you should check out if you’re a weather junkie like I am.
Calculator: The Game is such a neat idea. Someone has developed a game around a digital calculator. This game will require you to manipulate numbers by adding, subtracting, converting, reversing, and stuffing them through portals. There’s an LCD display for extra long equations, comfortable buttons designed for modern gameplay, Click, the snarkiest assistant will help you win; and a functioning solar panel.
HOOKED - Chat Stories is similar to StoryFire except the stories you read are in the form of a text message conversation as if you’re reading someone else’s chat history. They can be pretty thrilling too if you really picture the story revolving around the text messages. What’s a neat perk is that you can create your own stories and share them via this app.
I thought I’d include Universe Website Builder on the list for those of you who have always wanted to create a website but never got around to it due to it being a bit more complicated than you had imagined. This app will build a lightweight website on your iPhone for free and in under a minute. They claim the app is the first website builder designed for mobile. The sites are incredibly simple but they’re a great way to build up your online presence. You can even purchase a dot com domain starting in at about $3, which is pretty cool.
Again, none of these apps are sponsored. They are just apps that I have enjoyed over the past month.
WantedlyPeople is a free contact management app that lets you use your smartphone’s camera to quickly capture the info on a business card and turn it into a contact in your phone. It can scan up to 10 cards at once and it uses AI to analyze the contact info necessary for creating a contact. This app would be great for a trade show like CES.
The last app on the list is Virtual Tennis Challenge. As its name implies, it’s a tennis game with classic Sega-like controls. After reading many of the reviews, a lot of people had issues with the touchscreen. If you’re having similar problems, you can actually go into the settings and enable the D-pad, which might improve the gameplay. But overall, it’s a lot of fun. I highly recommend it.
