When comparing it to other high-end smartphones on the market, AT&T's Pantech Discover has a lot to like. Available for an incredibly low price of $49.99, it features a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU, 4.8-inch HD display, stereo speakers, 12.6-megapixel camera, 2,100 mAh battery, and Android 4.0 with Pantech's UI. Pantech's UI may not be a crowd pleaser and Android 4.0 is a bit of a disappointment, but for the money, this is an incredibly solid high-end smartphone.
That said, Pantech is competing against larger organizations like Apple, Samsung, HTC, and Motorola - companies that have established track records, strong brand awareness amongst consumers, and large marketing budgets. Not to mention the fact that educating AT&T retail representatives to market the device could be an uphill battle. Can Pantech win in a crowded smartphone market where "One," "Galaxy," and "DROID" are the must-have brands?
