It’s that time of the season again, it’s all about Nexus devices for the next few weeks. You’ll be seeing plenty of Nexus devices here on PhoneDog.com and tons of other YouTube channels. So let’s just go ahead and start out with the first Nexus device we’ve got our hands on, which is this guy right here, the Nexus 9 (or is it the Nexus 6?) I think it’s the Nexus 9. This is the HTC-made build and branded Google Nexus 9. Basically it is their flagship tablet so let’s go ahead and take a first look and unboxing of the brand new HTC-built Google Nexus 9.
So here it is, the Nexus 9 in all of its retail packaging glory. From the outside, you can clearly tell what this is. A simple, non-inked embossed 9 is on the front with a bit of blue and purple showing off its Google colors. And apart from two logos of HTC and Google, it’s pretty darn simple. On the back of the box is a little bit more intricate than the front—a photo of the Nexus 9 in model and configuration written out in small text on the left hand side. So enough of that, let’s crack open the lid by simply lifting up the box that reveals the brand new Nexus 9 wrapped all up in plastic. From first impressions on the hand, the Nexus 9 feels really solid with a metal construction. But let’s go ahead and put this off to the side and just continue on to the unboxing.
Underneath the tablet, you’ll find a blue envelope filled with some information about the Nexus 9 and some tips and tricks about using your brand new tablet. Next is your standard wall wart supplied by HTC and the micro USB cable for charging. And that’s about it. Pretty simple for what comes inside the box. So let’s dive in into the Nexus 9.
On the front, we have an 8.9-inch LCD IPS panel with a 2048x1536 resolution. That dials its pixels per inch right around 281ppi. On the left side of the Nexus 9 is absolutely nothing. On the right side, you’ll find the lock switch and volume rocker. On the top, a 3.5mm headphone jack. And on the bottom, a micro USB port for charging. And a really interesting feature on the Nexus 9 is the addition of two front-facing speakers sort of like HTC BoomSound but done in a way that it’s really hard to see.
The specs of this thing is really very interesting. This is running a 2.3GHz Tegra K1 chip, which is a very powerful processor. It’s also made with a version of Android 5.0 Lollipop will be running in 64-bit. The GPU is also the Kepler DX1. This is some seriously powerful hardware on the Nexus 9.
The Nexus 9 also has two cameras—a front-facing 1.6MP camera and a rear-facing 8MP camera. Nothing too crazy for a tablet here and we’ll definitely be taking a look at how these two cameras perform in future videos. And a last thing to mention here is the Nexus 9 obviously runs the latest version of Android, which is 5.0 Lollipop.
And with an overall first impressions, the Nexus 9 feels like a completely solid device. Obviously, I can’t say much because I just got it. But I’ll definitely be messing with this Nexus 9 for the next few days and weeks and I’ll come back with my full review.
