You might have heard that The New York Times refreshed their Android app and added sleek navigation upgrades to be more in line with material design. They asked us to check out their application to see how fluid it was. You can download the New York Times Android app for free here.
I’m a huge fan of written content. I value editorial content and The New York Times is always the best place to go, as their new application on Android is by far one of the best news consumption applications I’ve seen. It features a lot of material design and a lot of swiping. And the great thing is that when you’re in an article, you can easily swipe left and right through your different articles in that tab. It’s a great place to enjoy and discover content.
You access all of your sections by swiping from the left, which brings up a menu full of your topics and sections from The New York Times. Also, if you’re a lover of widgets on your home screen, The New York Times has you covered. The app is accompanied by a beautiful widget that's resizable for your convenience. It includes headline articles and other topics that you’re interested in or read on a regular basis. Clicking on any of the articles on the widget will launch you into the application so you can read the full article.
Everything on the application is refined and well-polished. One of my favorite features is that it works the way it’s intended to. There’s no excess or clutter — it’s just your content and some simple gestures to go through to read the articles. A good application needs to provide an uninterrupted reading and user experience, and this one does. You don’t want too many distractions and you don’t want too many things going on so you can focus on the editorial content. It’s definitely a less flashy application than your typical news app, and that’s one of the strongest points of this application.
Overall, this is one clean app, and the great thing is that it’s free to download. Make sure to look below and click on the link on the description to go to the Google Play store so you can experience The New York Times in all of its material design glory.
