The LG G Flex 2 is the next smartphone from LG after the LG G3. It features several design changes from the LG G3, which might make it more appealing for you guys. So let’s go ahead and compare the design of each device and see what’s different, what’s new and which one you guys like best.
In this video, I want to compare the design of the LG G Flex 2 with the very popular LG G3. So the LG G Flex 2 is, you know, the new kid on the block and its defining feature is of course, that curved display. It’s curved ever so slightly to enhance the display by creating better viewing angles when watching videos. It also enhances just talking on the phone as it curves to the natural shape of your head, so that’s pretty cool. It just looks damn good and futuristic, which to be honest, is probably the main reason why you would pick up this curved device. I mean, you can’t really say that about the LG G3; especially now that it’s been out for quite a while.
It features a traditional flat display but it is a 5.5-inch display, which is the same size as the LG G Flex 2’s display. The G Flex 2 is a little bit taller than the LG G3 though as it has a slightly thicker top and bottom bezel. The bezels on the side are actually very similar but I would say the LG G Flex 2’s side bezels may actually be a hair thinner. But besides that, the front of each device look almost identical.
If we take a closer look around each device, there is nothing on the left hand side nor right hand side of each device. The top of the G Flex and G3 feature an IR blaster with a 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB charging port located down below at the bottom. Now the back is where things get interesting. First of all, both devices feature a 13MP camera sensor and dual LED flash as well as a laser autofocus camera sensor and those infamous LG rear-facing buttons for the volume up and down controls and the power sleep on/off button. The only difference is that the camera sensor and rear-facing control buttons are more square in shape on the G Flex 2 as opposed to the rounded edges or more circular design of the camera sensor and controls on the LG G3.
Both back covers are made of plastic so if you guys were hoping the G Flex 2 had something besides plastic, well I’m sorry but that’s not the case. The G Flex 2 does have a very reflective and glossy back cover that does look very good and premium, maybe more so than the brushed matted plastic back cover found on the LG G3. But I really can’t say it feels better on the hands. If you pick up the LG G Flex 2, it’s just very slimy and kind of sticky as opposed to the brushed plastic back cover on the LG G3 that is supposed to resemble brushed aluminum.
If you guys look closely at the back cover here of the G Flex 2, you’ll see kind of a circular brushed pattern but it is covered up with a layer of LG’s self-healing coating that will heal small scratches and scuffs. The LG G3 doesn’t have that, which might or might not be a good thing. It might make it slimier than the G Flex 2, you never know.
As for the dimensions of the device, the G Flex 2 measures in between 7.1 and 9.4mm thick with the curve while the LG G3 measures in at an 8.9mm thick. You can remove the battery on the LG G3 but you can’t remove the battery on the LG G Flex 2. Seriously, you have to think about that because it might be a deal breaker for a lot of you guys.
