Huawei has really stepped up their game over the past few months. We were first introduced to the Mate S back in IFA, a mega premium Android smartphone that later became the framework for the Google Nexus 6P, which many (including myself) think is the best Android phone ever made. So Huawei is currently riding the surge of good press and want to bring in their other products to this side of the globe. So welcome the Honor line. You may have heard of it but now the Honor line is right here at home and for an incredible price point. This is the Honor 5X, a fairly premium Android smartphone running Android 5.1 Lollipop, EMUI 3.1, and it only costs $200.
Inside the box, you get the phone, a charger, and a SIM card ejector tool. Though once you pick up the 5X and feel its premium aluminum back, you just get a sense of quality. The 5X is a truly premium phone. Even if it has plastic on the top and bottom, the rest of the phone is still very topnotch. And it's not too bad internally either. We're looking at an Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 CPU, which has 2 Quad-Core processors, the Adreno 405 GPU, 2 or 3 GB of RAM depending on the model you get. Storage is pretty standard, only at 16 GB internally but thankfully you can expand that with a microSD up to 128 GB. The screen on here is a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD panel that looks pretty good. However, compared to more premium smartphones, it is slightly on the dim side. It has a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, and overall is one great-looking package.
The software is probably the weakest part of the Honor 5X. Why you may ask? Well, it's not an Android skin most of you are familiar to. It does look weird yet it is pretty usable. Though for someone like me who is used to a Nexus 6P, it sort of agonizes me to not see stock Android nor have an app drawer. Though again, things like Nova launcher can take care of a good 95% of all your problems.
So that is the Huawei Honor 5X. I know this has been a brief look but trust me, you will see this phone again here very soon in a video.
