Beau HD unboxes the new Studio 7.0 smartphone from BLU Products. The BLU Studio 7.0 is the world's first smartphone with a 7-inch 1024x600 display and it's equipped with a dual-core 1.3GHz processor, 5-megapixel rear camera, and 1GB of RAM along with support for 4G HSPA+ and a microSD card up to 64GB.
One of the newest BLU smartphones, the BLU Studio 7.0 is marketed as the world’s first smartphone with a 7-inch display. In terms of spces, it’s a mid-range phone packing a 7-inch 1080p display with 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 5MP rear-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 4G HSPA+ and support for microSD card of up to 32GB. The device runs Android 4.4, hopefully Android Lollipop sometime next year.
When you slide off the top of the box, you’ll find the BLU Studio 7.0 phone sitting right on top. BLU included a screen protector, which is a plus. Underneath the phone is the standard BLU User Manual along with an included screen cloth to wipe off smudges on the phone. I haven’t seen this included in a smartphone box but leave it to BLU for including a wide array of accessories in each of their smartphone boxes. There’s also headphones with mic support so calls can be made and received via the headset. A standard micro USB charging cable and wall wart charger is also included on the Studio 7.0.
The Studio 7.0 is a gigantic phone that features a 7.0-inch display. You’ll get a sense of how big this phone is after struggling with its plastic protective coating. One thing to like about the design is that it has a clean front free of logos or any branding, which is perfect for people who prefer simple devices.
There’s nothing on the left hand side of the device. Meanwhile, a Power/Sleep On/Off button and Volume Up/Down controls are on the right hand side. On top is a 3.5mm headphone jack and on the bottom is where the micro USB charging port and dual speaker ports are. The front has a large 7.0-inch 1080p display with a 2MP front-facing camera under the call headset speaker and nothing else since the phone uses software navigation buttons. On the back is a semi-protruding 5MP rear-facing camera and flash with the BLU logo down below. It may be hard to see but the back cover has a dimpled texture similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S5, giving it added texture. A Studio indented logo can also be found here.
After powering on, you’ll realize that it isn’t a high end phone. Considering it is a big 1080p panel and powered by a modest dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, the device performs alright. It works pretty well but it’s not going to be a speed beast. Because of its size, BLU made it easier to control the device. When you swipe down from the top left of the screen, you’ll get notifications. Swiping from the top right of the screen will lead you to the quick settings. Kind of a reminder of an older Android tablet and how these two are separated. But this is a phone and it’s running Android 4.4.2 KitKat. No word on an upgrade to Lollipop but it certainly is a possibility sometime early next year.
