It’s another chance for us to look back at our official smartphone rankings for last week. I’m not going to talk about the main flagships. This week, I’m turning my attention to perhaps what is the most interesting device on the market right now. And that’s the BlackBerry Passport.

Thanks to all your votes, it has amazingly made its way into the top 5.

There’s a lot to like about it even though it hasn’t been designed specifically with the average general consumer in mind. What excites me the most is the new physical keyboard. Yes, it’s a big, chunky, and easy to type on fantastic physical set of buttons but that’s not what makes it really interesting. It’s also built with some really touch sensitive technology, which means you can use gestures similar to those that you can use on the virtual keyboard on devices like the Z10 and Z30. So if you want to select words that have been suggested as predictions, you can swipe up or delete by swiping across the surface. It’s a really cool and interesting way to make typing if not more practical and quick, then definitely more fun.

Of course, the other great thing about it is the big square display. It may not be anything like what else is on the market because most of the screens are rectangles. But the square display does make it easier to do things like read emails, read spreadsheets, and anything that’s text-based like browsers, Word documents—you can just see more of the words on the screen. It makes it easy to read or at least, you can see more of what you’re trying to read without zooming in and out and scrolling around and getting in a mess. Sure, the BlackBerry OS isn’t the best equipped when it comes to apps (or at least native apps) that you can download from BlackBerry Store. But the BlackBerry Passport is easily the most interesting device on the market right now. 

And with the way it’s trending on the vote currently it’s anything to go by, I know it’s early in the week and we’ve yet to see what’s going to happen over the next seven days. But right now it’s trending on number one. So could the BlackBerry Passport make it to number one—and that would make it the first device to get to number one apart from the HTC One M8 all year. That would be pretty surprising. So I’m guessing that’s because the guys really like it.

But that’s enough about the Passport—let’s get into the top 5 vote for the People’s Choice and the Expert’s Choice lists. On the People’s Choice on the fifth place, like we’ve been telling you throughout this whole video, is the BlackBerry Passport with 27 votes. In fourth place, we have the LG G3 and just above that, the iPhone 6. In second place, the iPhone 6 Plus is still outperforming the smaller model and the HTC One M8 is yet again on number one. On the Expert’s Choice ranking, sadly the BlackBerry Passport does not make an appearance. In joint fourth, the LG G3 and the 2^nd Gen Moto X. in third place, we have the Apple iPhone 6 Plus. While in second place, the HTC One M8 has yet again been beaten by the iPhone 6. So that’s two weeks in a row now where the iPhone 6 has topped the HTC One M8 in the Expert’s Choice list. Obviously, we don’t know how long that’s going to continue. and the Galaxy Note 4 is here very, very soon. It could change everything again.
