This is Best Tech Under $100 for the month of December 2015.
Coin 2.0
This right here is Coin 2.0, a smart card designed to lighten your wallet. It's essentially one card that can hold multiple credit, debit or gift cards. In the box, you have a card reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack that can basically be plugged into your phone for you to quickly add cards to the app and then sync to your Coin. Coin also features Bluetooth and will be unlocked and ready to use when it's in proximity to your smartphone. If you accidentally lose your Coin, all of your info will be encrypted and you'll be able to track it down based off when the Coin is used.
So there is a bar code on the back of the Coin just like any other card. And on the front, we have a small e-paper display which is new with the Coin 2.0 version. And there is also a button on the cycle through all of the cards you have preloaded on your Coin.
Coin 2.0 is unique in that it features NFC. It's thinner than the previous version. It features an improved electronic strip that performs better at merchants and it can be updated via over the air software updates that will add EMV capabilities and new features, keeping Coin future-proof. In my testing, my Coin 2.0 worked just about every time I used it. And every time I did use it, everybody would comment on it because it was just so unusual. It's definitely one of the coolest pieces of tech I've ever used. It's priced at $100.
TYLT Energi Smart Charger 6K
This is the TYLT Energi 6K for iOS and Android devices. Basically, it's an all-in-one portable charger. So depending on which version you get, it can charge your iOS or Android device with either a lightning or micro USB charging cable that is built into the device. You can plug the 6K directly into your wall to have it act like a normal USB wall charger. In addition, it features an intelligent charging technology that prioritizes the charge to your device until your device is fully charged, in which it will then start charging the 6,000 mAh packed inside here. Given the soft touch material and the small form factor, the Energi 6K is probably the best all-in-one battery pack on the market.
The Energi 6K with the micro USB cable is about $70 and the Energi 6K with a lightning cable is about $80.
Samsung Gear VR
This is the Gear VR. I recently unboxed it and shared my in depth thoughts of the device in a separate video. But I wanted to include it in this video because it's one of the best VR headsets for the price. If you own a Galaxy S6, S6 edge, Note 5, or S6 edge+ and interested in Virtual Reality, I would say this is a must have. It's powered by Oculus and offers additional centers beyond the ones found in your smartphone such as an Accelerometer, Gyrometer, Geo-magnetic and In-Proximity sensor. The Motion latency is also less than 20 milliseconds so you're going to get a very smooth frame rate, which will translate to a better VR experience.
Personally, I think it's one of the best consumer VR headsets on the market.
Misfit Shine 2
This is the new Misfit Shine 2 fitness and sleep monitor. The Shine 2 made it on the list because it's one of the better fitness trackers for the price. The Shine 2 is now only super thin, coming in at just 8mm thick, which is pretty darn thin for a smartwatch or fitness tracker. But it's remarkably strong as well. It features aircraft-grade aluminum glass reinforced polycarbonate and is water-resistant up to 50 m. Inside, it's equipped with a three-axis accelerometer and magnetometer that works in harmony for the most advanced activity in sleep tracking. There are 12 vivid LEDs that tell time. They show progress in various notifications and there is a capacitive touch sensor to respond to the Shine 2.
In addition, there's a vibrational alarm for notifications. We have Bluetooth 4.1 for syncing data and a replaceable coin cell battery that lasts up to (get this) 6 months. If you're a fitness junkie or you just want to monitor your sleeping habits, check out the Shine 2. It's priced at about $100.
Plugged Crown Headphones
The last item on the list is the Plugged Crown headphones. These first made their appearance on my Best Tech of November video. They feature 40mm drivers, they feature plush ear cushions with a scratch-resistant body and noise isolation. Plugged also includes a brand hat with your purchase. They included protective soft case and 3.5mm audio cables in the box. So you get the whole package for $100. Best of all, they sound very good as they're designed by Bose and US Navy Engineers.
If you want to learn more or purchase any of the devices mentioned in this video, I'll provide links to do so in the description.
