After making its international debut earlier this month, the Alcatel Idol 5 will soon be making its way to Cricket Wireless in the U.S.
Cricket will begin selling the Idol 5 on October 27th for $199. On that same date, Cricket will launch the Alcatel UNI360 VR goggles, shown below, which are optimized for use with the Idol 5 but do work with other smartphones with 5- to 6-inch displays. The UNI 360 VR goggles will sell for $49.99.
Getting back to the Idol 5, this sub-$200 smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat on a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 display. It’s got a 12-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
Inside the Idol 5’s shell is an octa-core Helio P20 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There’s a microSD slot included, too, if the built-in storage isn’t enough. Also included are dual front-facing speakers, USB Type-C port, FM radio, and a 2,850mAh battery with Pump Express 2.0+ fast charging.
Rounding out the Idol 5’s features is a Now key on the side of the device that can be used to launch your most commonly used apps.
