Best tech of the month experienced a brief hiatus while I was traveling in Hawaii for the month of July. But we are back with some fresh, new tech. These are some of my favorite tech items I had the pleasure of testing out during the month of August.
First we have the SOUL Electronics Extra Wireless Headphones. The best thing about these cans is the featured price ratio. They cost $150 and feature everything you need for working out. They are lightweight and durable, thanks to their plastic build construction; which can be folded up for traveling and there’s a neat little rubber band to provide some extra comfort when they’re sitting on your head.
The earpads are removable and washable so you can sweat in these things and not have to worry about cleanliness. If you’re a runner, get this, there are built in dual LED lights to help keep you safe in the dark with still and flashing modes.
There is fast-charging support and a battery that can last up to about 24 hours of playtime with the LED lights turned off. The 40mm dynamic drivers produce a loud, heavy sound that’s great for working out really. For casual listening, you might want to look for a pair of headphones with more of a flat sound. But I really like the sound profile these cans offer, once again, especially for working out.
If you live with a family or if you are obsessed with tech and own way more devices than you probably should, you really need to look into something like the Alxum Smart Charging Station. This is a 96-watt 10-port USB charging station that’ll be able to charge all your devices simultaneously in one neat and tidy station. There are even little stands that will prop your devices up so that they are stacked on top of each other. What’s also neat is the ability to fast charge compatible devices thanks to the 5-volt 2.4 amps of power that this station can provide per each USB port.
In addition to the charging station, you can purchase these items to keep things more tidy:
6-inch Lightning to USB charging cables
6-inch Micro-USB to USB charging cables
Anker Micro-USB to USB-C adapter
The next item might seem a little bit unusual but it’s certainly very sophisticated. It’s an electronic toothbrush from a new company called Oclean. It’s dubbed as the world’s most powerful sonic toothbrush for a number of reasons. It features fast-charging, has preset and customizable cleaning plans, it features a speaker with an AI voice assistant that will dictate info to you like how well you’re doing, the cleaning intensity, and so forth. It has several different cleaning intensities and features Bluetooth with an accompanying app. The app will actually sync up with your smartphone and tell you how long you brushed your teeth for, the cleaning level, and will even spit out a score. What’s also neat is that it’ll tell you when you need to replace the brush head, which is usually good for about 60 days.
If you’re interested, you can order the Oclean One via Indiegogo for sale around $80 give or take and it will ship in November.
Another device I’ve been testing out this summer is the Evapolar Personal Air Conditioner. Since my home doesn’t have central air conditioning, I’ve relied heavily on this little device to keep me cool and it has surprisingly worked pretty well.
So here’s the rundown: you basically fill up this little reservoir with water, you plug the Evapolar into the wall via a USB wall wart or your computer (yeah, this air conditioner can be powered by a computer via a USB port). Once you do that, you just power it on and you use the turn dial up top to find the right fan intensity to blow cool air in your direction.
So it only cools about 45 square feet around you so the ideal situation would be to use this device while you’re working at your computer desk, which is what I have been doing in my testing. It does drop the temperature by a significant degree but keep in mind that it does work best in environments with not a lot of humidity, drier environments work best. If you live in the tropics or the south, it probably won’t work as well for you.
The Evapolar is a bit pricey at $180 but there is an Evapolar 2 coming out that will likely result in the original Evapolar getting a discount. We might also see some end of summer discounts as well so stay tuned for that.
Now if you’re looking for more stealthy wireless headphones, you should check out the AUKEY wireless headphones. They feature a design similar to the Jaybird’s X headphones, if you’ve ever used those, but they’re only $30. For that price, you get a sweat-resistant design, three EQ sound modes and 8 hours of music playtime per charge. Once again, for the price, it’s really hard to go wrong here. And if you need to power these headphones up, or the SOUL headphones we talked about earlier, or any electronic device you have, you should look into a portable battery. This is a 10,000mAh portable battery also from AUKEY that can charge your phone up multiple times. It’s also thin and portable enough to easily store in a backpack or a bag or purse if that’s more of your thing.
With that last one, those are our favorite products from the month of August 2017.
