Amazon has the Echo, Google has the Home, and Apple has the HomePod. And soon, Samsung might have a smart speaker of its own.
Samsung is working on a smart speaker powered by its Bixby voice assistant, claims a report from the Wall Street Journal. The device is said to be codenamed Vega, but most of its features and specs are still up in the air because Samsung has yet to decide on them.
It’s unclear when Samsung might launch its Bixby speaker, as the release timing is still “far from determined”.
Voice-powered smart speakers are a hot trend, right now, with the Amazon Echo becoming a surprise hit and then Google and Apple following with devices of its own. With the recent debut of Bixby, it’s no surprise to hear that Samsung is interested in trying its hand at the smart speaker market, too. Samsung still has some work to do to get Bixby ready for to compete, though, as Bixby is currently only available in South Korea since its English launch has been delayed.
