While unlimited data plans are currently all the rage with the major US carriers, not everyone around the world has a bottomless bucket of bytes at their disposal. Twitter today announced a new feature aimed at those users with lighter data plans or slower network speeds.
Twitter Lite is a new, lightweight way to access Twitter. You can access it by pointing your smartphone’s web browser to mobile.twitter.com. That means that you should be able to use Twitter Lite on most mobile devices.
Twitter touts that the site is less than 1MB, making it fast to load even on slower connections. There’s also a data saver mode that’ll blur images until you tap on them to view the full photo. Twitter says that this feature can reduce your data usage by up to 70 percent.

Twitter Lite also offers push notifications in Google Chrome and other modern Android browsers. There’s offline support, too, so you can keep reading Twitter even if you temporarily lose your internet connection.
Lots of people use Twitter to stay connected to others, whether that’s for news about the world, sports scores, or celebrities that they like. The goal of Twitter Lite is to ensure that everyone that wants to stay connected using Twitter can, even if they don’t have an unlimited data plan, LTE data speeds, or a high-end smartphone.
