It’s been a while since Facebook broke Messenger out of its main app and made the chat service its own app, but ever since it happened, there’s been a Messenger shortcut in the row of icons of the main FB app. Now that shortcut is finally getting replaced.
Today Facebook is launching Marketplace, and the feature is getting a spot in the main row of icons at the bottom of the Facebook app. Marketplace’s shortcut will be represented by a small shop icon.
Marketplace will let you buy and sell items with other Facebook users. You can see all of the items for sale near you, complete with photos, or you can perform a search if you’re looking for something specific. Item pages can include photos, a price, a description, the location of the item, and the seller’s name and any mutual friends you to might have.
If you find an item that you like, you can begin a Messenger chat right from the listing.
Marketplace will also offer a Your Items section that’ll keep track of your dealings. That includes your saved items, products that you’ve posted for sale, and all of your messages with others.
Facebook’s Marketplace will roll out to all iPhone and Android users that are over 18 years old in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The feature will appear in the main Facebook app over the coming days.
