Lenovo’s Motorola has released a couple of new phones this year with fingerprint readers on their faces, but according to a new leak, Moto is experimenting with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, too.
New images appear to show an unannounced Moto phone with a rear fingerprint reader. The photos were apparently shared by TENAA, which is like China’s version of the FCC. I couldn’t pull the images up myself, but I did find TENAA’s listing for the device, which has the model number XT1662.
TENAA also spilled a few of this mystery Moto device’s specs. The phone will allegedly sport a 5.5-inch display, 3,000mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, and Android.
It’s unclear when this mysterious Moto XT1662 might launch or where it’ll be available. Obviously we don’t know a lot about the phone right now, but it’s interesting because we’ve currently got Moto phones with fingerprint readers on their fronts, while this device has its fingerprint reader on the back. Perhaps if this XT1662 gets a positive reception, we’ll see more Moto phones with rear fingerprint readers.
Do you prefer your phone’s fingerprint reader to be on the back or the front of the device?
