Smartphone security is important. Many folks use their smartphone to hold all kinds of personal data, and most probably want to keep that info out of the wrong hands. Today Google announced a new feature that’ll help Android users keep their data from the wrong people.
Google today announced native Android notifications for when your account is added to a device or new security event. As you can see in the screenshots above, when a new device accesses your Google account, you’ll get a notification about the event and a link to “Review Account Activity.”
Tapping the “Review Account Activity” button will take you to a page that’ll give you more info about the new device accessing your account. That includes what the device is, the time that it accessed your account, its location, its browser, and its IP address. You can then say “Yes, that was me” or “No, secure account.”
This feature is now rolling out to all users.
Google offers several account security features for Android users, including two-step authentication and monthly Android security updates. Now it’s got these native notifications, too. Google says that with these native alerts, users are four times more likely to review the device information when compared to email alerts.
