Quick charging is a popular feature on smartphones, letting you get a big boost to your battery in a short period of time. Today MediaTek introduced the latest version of its quick charge tech, Pump Express 3.0.
MediaTek touts that Pump Express 3.0 can charge a phone from zero to 70 percent in just 20 minutes. The company has worked to ensure that your phone stays safe while receiving this burst of energy, too, saying that Pump Express 3.0 offers bi-directional communication and more than 20 protection systems, including overheating prevention in both the charger and the phone.
Pump Express 3.0 is also said to be the “world’s first solution to enable direct charge through Type-C USB delivery.” This means that the charging bypasses the circuitry in the phone and routs the electrical current from the adaptor to the battery. MediaTek says that this, too, helps to prevent the device from overheating.
Pump Express 3.0. will appear in MediaTek’s Helio P20 chips, with devices that include the feature expected to hit the market by the end of 2016. It’ll be added to future smartphone chipsets as well.
Quick charging is a good way to juice up your phone in a hurry so that it doesn’t die in the middle of the day. With Pump Express 3.0, owners of MediaTek-powered devices will be able to get even more of a charge in a short time than they could with previous versions.
