Google has a lot of apps on iOS that can give you a taste of the Android experience on an iPhone or iPad. Today Google updated its main iOS app with some spiffy new features.
A Google app update — to version 15.1, specifically — is now rolling out on iOS. The update adds support for Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), a feature that can drastically speed up webpage load times and use less data than non-AMP pages. The feature rolled out on the mobile web earlier this year.
Also included in today’s update are keyboard shortcuts for iPad users. If you’re using an external keyboard with your iPad, you can use these shortcuts to get around faster. Just hold the Command key and you’ll see a full list of shortcuts that are available.
Rounding out today’s update is support for sports highlight videos in Now cards and the ability to view a place or business’s busiest hours directly in the search results page. Google says that the app itself is “just a bit quicker,” too.
So yeah, this is a pretty notable update for the Google app on iOS. You can grab the app from the App Store right here.
