The Moto X Pure Edition is still a fairly new device, having just launched a few months ago. The rumor mill doesn’t care how long a device has been out, though, because today it produced some alleged info about Motorola’s next Moto X.
An image posted to Chinese site cnBeta claims to show Motorola’s next generation Moto X. The device appear to have a metal body with a rear speaker grille, volume and power buttons on its right side (left when you’re looking at its rear), and a Lumia 950 XL-ish round camera housing that appears to have Moto branding and a flat tire design, with the flash living in the flat part.
Today’s report cautions that this isn’t a final design, but is actually just one of the prototypes that Motorola is currently testing. The report also mentions that the new Moto X may include a Snapdragon 820 processor, but there doesn’t appear to be any hard evidence to support that claim.
What makes this leak interesting is that it eschews the front-facing speakers that’ve been present on the past couple of Xs — or at least it seems like it would be since there’s a speaker grille on the back of this leaked Moto X. There’s no mention in today’s report about whether this metal Moto X would be the only version offered or if it’d be offered as a Moto Maker option, but it seems unlikely that Motorola would abandon Moto Maker completely, as that has been one of the tentpole features of the past three Moto X phones.
